Thanks to club members input via our suggestion box, fortnightly mid week luncheons and a table at a local Friday night seafood smorgasboard venue are being organized.
All events were seriously contended and it was very encouraging for the club to see juniors Kathleen Robinson and Melissa Clark featuring in the finals of open events. Kathleen was the outstanding player of the tournament, featuring in three open finals; two of which she won. 14 year Melissa Clark didn’t do too badly either in taking off the open ladies doubles (with a little help from her Mum!)
The veterans’ doubles final was again a feature match with Mr Slice (Peter Prager) again being on the winning team. This time he played with “junior” veteran Mr Wallopem (Neil Ewin) and was victorious against well known story teller Mr Choppit (Rod Keating) and new boy to the veterans’ scene David Mortimer who hasn’t yet qualified for a nick name, but put in a very good effort.
The Mens club champion was Peter Fysh

On Sunday 27th June, a group of enthusiastic veteran male tennis players, whose ages ranged from 60 to 84yrs, braved the cold and turned up early at the Club to do battle for the Bruce Baxter Trophy, our annual veterans' doubles championship event.
Die hards Ken Sievers, Syd Powell, Pax Lambert, Rod Keating, Peter Prager and Neil Ewin all competed. The inimitable Archie Bayvel, a previous winner of the trophy turned up late without a note, or a reasonable excuse, or a partner, so unfortunately was unable to compete. George Thompson another very keen competitor could not play due to minor eye surgery.
The competition was fierce at times, and Rod and Peter (otherwise known as Mr Chop and Mr Slice) won the final with some good quality tennis, being victorious over Ken and Neil who battled in vain to defend their title in front of an enthusiastic audience.
Our congratulations to Rod and Peter for their winning performance and for being excellent role models for younger members of the Club.
Stop Press: We have heard from a good source that ever young Archie is already out practicing in secret with one of his grand sons, for next year's event! (Jeff Carrol)
Congratulations to our Saturday Afternoon { February} Men's team who won their playoff to finish in 3rd spot

Bareena now has 2 teams entered in the Saturday Mixed competition
Well done to the lads Peter Fysh, Craig Oliver & Steve Titus pictured

Children Holiday Tennis Camps
What a great idea for the Christmas school holidays. The tennis camps have been very successful with more than 15 children on any one day. The children are entertained with participation in many different sporting activities. Kids consider inviting a friend. Camp 1: Dec 21-23, Camp 2: Jan 11-16,
Camp 3: Jan 18-22
See Home Page Children Holiday Camps for more information photo of holiday camp here
Sunday Session Christmas Breakfast and Presentation of Trophies
A beautiful morning saw Graeme Clark (Club Captain) firing up the BBQ and prepared a wonderful breakfast of bacon and egg roll accompanied with Christmas bubbly cheer (it would make other Sunday mornings seem very mild in comparison). The Championship presentations followed with the handing out of new trophies which will be very much sort after as they look very stylish in any spot in one’s home.

The Women’s Doubles match was a hard fought tie break win by the Darby’s. The Men’s Single witnessed some outstanding play by Jamie Crooks to push his opponent, James Mclean to the third set decider. Melissa Clark & Isabelle McGlasson played a fatiguing 2 hour match, with long rallies in 35 degree heat.
